The Story of Our Journey
Establishment
"Narok Friends Based Organization" was established on 24th Aug, 2017 by six members after a dowry escort
Initial Purpose
Mutual support for dowry and thanksgiving functions
Growth
Rapid growth to over 44 members (men and women) due to interest and perceived need.
Early Operations
Operated on mutual trust; ad-hoc leadership for functions; not registered, no constitution
The Transition
Transition to Legality
Recognition of the need for legality and accountability as the group
grew
Registration
Agreed to register with the Department of Social Services (interim officers, constitution, bylaws developed, bank account opened)
Founding Members' Role
Founding members were granted the chance to hold initial offices and spearhead operations
Expansion of Activities
Discussions led to including support for education fees, business ventures, and building homes for parents and members
CBO
Conversion
The decision to convert to a Community-Based Organization was made in October 2018 to incorporate a wider scope, activities, and pursue strategic partnerships
